What's DREAMTIME

The Aboriginals have a word for time past,

for a time when all sensations were felt and all people were a part of the land.

It is the "Dreamtime."

But every person has his own Dreamtime too,

for every person's Dreamtime begins at birth, or even before,

when you are in the dark, listening to the sound of the outside of your mother's skin.

Try to remember what things were like when you first saw them

－the earth, the leaves, the sky, the animals who moved about you－

and you will be in touch, once again, with your own... Dreamtime.

アボリジナルは，過ぎ去った時代，つまりすべての感覚が働き，人間がすべて大地の一部であった時代を言い表すことばを持っています。それは「ドリームタイム」。

しかし，人間はみな，自分だけのドリームタイムも，もっているのです。というのも，めいめいのドリームタイムは誕生の瞬間にはじまるのですから。いや，それ以前に闇の中で，母親の肌をへだてて外界の物音を聞いている時に，もうはじまっているともいえます。

はじめて大地や，木々の葉や，空や，身近にいる動物たちを見た時に，そういうもろもろがどんなふうだったか，思い出そうとしてごらんなさい——そうすれば，ふたたび自分自身の——ドリームタイムに入っていけるはずです。
